(Top and Bottom-Left): At the time of writing, a series of 'fake' carriages were being constructed on the former goods platform at Central station. Sources have indicated that when complete, these carriages may be used as a form of back packer hostel/lounge for those with inconvenient connections between interstate/country trains.

(All): Due to the short length of platforms 2 and 3, and the long length of the Indian Pacific consist, two locomotives are required for complicated shunting moves. The first locomotive (NR113) is moved ahead of the train, whereas a second locomotive (DL49, pictured below) moves one half of the Indian Pacific to arrive onto Platform 3. After the front half is moved onto the platform, the leading locomotive is returned back to the second half of the divided train, and is then moved onto another platform (Platform 2).
(Top-Left): DL49 arrives into Platform 3 with the first half portion of the Indian Pacific from Perth.
(Middle-Left): The two locomotives which lead the Indian Pacific (NR113 and DL49) are seen passing each other on platforms 2 and 3.
(Bottom-Left): NR113 on platform 2 and DL49 on platform 3 after arriving with their respective halves of the Indian Pacific.
